While organizations are looking to invest in on-premise infrastructure that supports cloud economics, scalability, and agility, here are some key factors that will empower seamless IT modernization and successful digital transformation in 2020

Fremont, CA: Despite being the fact that cloud is the next 'big thing' and is changing the technological landscape, on-premise data centers still remain the dominant infrastructure deployment platform in 2020. The TechTarget's 2020 IT Priorities Survey revealed that 45 percent of the top IT decision-makers cited on-premise data center as their preferred infrastructure deployment methodology. Hybrid cloud ranked second, with 27 percent of respondents opting to it, followed by public cloud, software as a service, multi-cloud, and on-premise private cloud.

The statistic makes it clear that businesses are not driven by the 'cloud-first' or 'cloud-only' policy. Businesses realize that moving applications to the cloud can be complex and needs proper understanding and time, besides investment. Another trend that is driving down the use of cloud is the reversion of the application from the public cloud back to the data center. 86 percent of enterprises are reversing their workloads to the on-premise data centers, thereby losing a huge amount of money and time as well.

Automation/Intelligence

Among others, one of the prime benefits that cloud promises is to reduce complexity for IT teams. Organizations enjoy the benefits of the pervasive use of automation and intelligence with a consistent cloud operating model. Besides eliminating the routine manual tasks, automation and intelligence can enable self-service capabilities for business users. It reduces the workload of IT personnel, thus freeing up to support the initiative and new business opportunities.

A Consistent Cloud Operating Model

Working on two or more clouds is common among 93 percent of the organizations. While it eases the services, it also creates management complexity and silos due to many differences in the infrastructure, policies, APIs, and management tools. To eliminate silos, IT teams require an agile infrastructure that reduces complexity and provides a consistent cloud operating model across all locations.

Security

Security is one of the greatest concerns while moving workloads to the cloud. Cybersecurity professionals are extremely concerned about cloud security. Visibility and control from the data center to the public cloud is necessary for the multi-cloud environment. Solutions that provide encryption, multi-factor authentication, hardened infrastructure, and distributed security features, and protections should be looked for while moving to the cloud.
